Chief Judge Carl Stewart of the Fifth Circuit to Speak at State Bar Convention’s First Appellate Practice Section Meeting

The Mississippi Bar’s Appellate Practice Section is pleased to announce that Honorable Carl Stewart, Chief Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, will be its guest speaker on July 12, 2013, at 10:15 a.m., at the State Bar Convention in Sandestin, Florida. All members of the Mississippi Bar are invited to attend Chief Judge Stewart’s address.
Chief Judge Stewart was appointed to the Fifth Circuit Court in 1994 and became Chief Judge in October 2012. He is a magna cum laude graduate of Dillard University and earned his J.D. in 1974 from Loyola University School of Law in New Orleans. Before joining the Fifth Circuit, Chief Judge Stewart, who lives in Shreveport, Louisiana, was in Army JAG, the Office of the Louisiana Attorney General, an Assistant United States Attorney, a state prosecutor, private practice, and then an elected state court trial and appellate judge, first serving on the First Judicial District of Caddo Parish and later on the Louisiana Second Circuit Court of Appeals. All members of the Mississippi Bar are invited to attend Chief Judge Stewart’s address.
Michael Bentley, an associate in the Jackson office, will serve as Vice Chair of the Appellate Practice Section of The Mississippi Bar. Bentley was part of a group that petitioned the Bar to form an appellate section. For the full article, click here.
