Over the past year, many energy companies around the world have suffered significant financial distress due to a confluence of factors, including the global recession, excess energy supply and a fall in manufacturing activity. The result has been a wave of bankruptcy filings by energy producers and related service companies. The Energy Law & Mining Issues in Bankruptcy panel will discuss the legal issues, including labor contract disputes and environmental compliance issues, arising in the energy and coal company bankruptcy cases, with a specific focus on the chapter 11 bankruptcy case of Walter Energy, Inc.
