Speaker(s)

Dana Lumsden, partner in the Charlotte office, was a featured speaker during the webinar, The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau: A View From Above, presented by the International Association of Defense Counsel (IADC) Business Litigation Committee.

The hour-long webinar focused on the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau ("CFPB") which spawned from the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, an Act that ushered in changes to the United States financial regulatory system at a magnitude not seen since the Great Depression. As a result, the CFPB has extremely broad regulatory power, and not just over banks. The CFPB acts as a watchdog for the entire financial industry. Compliance with the CFPB's mandates should be a top priority of any company that touches consumer finance. The webinar discussed the CFPB's formation, its authority, its mission, and enforcement trends.
