In February 2014, NIST plans to release the final Cybersecurity Framework developed in accordance with Executive Order 13636, “Improving Critical Infrastructure Cybersecurity." The Executive Order called upon NIST to collaborate with industry to develop a voluntary risk-based cybersecurity framework that is “prioritized, flexible, repeatable, performance-based and cost effective.” The February release comes after a multi-step development process during which NIST issued multiple drafts of the Framework, held five discussion workshops, participated in numerous informal feedback sessions, and reviewed over 200 public comments received in response to an October 29 Preliminary Draft Framework.
