BABC Partner Tom Trent recently participated in an economic growth summit in Clarksville, Tennessee. Many different groups came together to discuss the different aspects of community planning with a focus on Clarksville’s community goals for long-term growth. The participants discussed the role of educational institutions as partners for growing businesses, the role of consolidated government in helping citizens become involved in the growth process, as well as the role of hotel/ convention center development as a community attraction. Trent boiled it down to the basics, saying that companies are going to be attracted to a location that fits their needs. He explained that a company’s needs can includes multiple aspects of a community, including colleges and universities, land development opportunities, proximity to big cities, quality of life, and potential for growth.
