Bradley Arant Boult Cummings Associate Michael J. Bentley Named one of the Mississippi Business Journal’s “Top 40 Under 40”

Firm News, Accolade

Bradley Arant Boult Cummings LLP is pleased to announce that associate Michael J. Bentley has been named to the Mississippi Business Journal’s “Top 40 Under 40,” recognizing Mississippi’s up-and-coming business leaders.

“We are proud of Michael’s professional achievements and successes and we congratulate him on this well-deserved recognition,” said Firm Chairman Beau Grenier. “Through his practice and leadership at the firm as well as his civic involvements, Michael’s contributions and his impact on Mississippi during his relatively young career have been significant.”

This year’s “Top 40 Under 40” honorees are profiled in a special issue of the Mississippi Business Journal and were honored at the Hilton Jackson.

Mr. Bentley has experience litigating appeals in state and federal courts. He has represented a diverse group of clients in a variety of appeals, ranging from the appeal of a jury verdict in a multi-million dollar oil-and-gas dispute, to the interlocutory appeal of a maritime seizure order, to the preparation of an amicus brief supporting a corporation’s constitutionally protected property rights and a challenge to Mississippi’s lethal injection protocol. Mr. Bentley credits his reverence for the legal system to his grandfather, one of the first Mississippi attorneys to represent African-American clients.

In addition to his law practice, Michael remains active in his community and local bar organizations, having served as the President of the Jackson Young Lawyers Association, a director for the Mississippi Young Lawyers Division, and a volunteer pro bono attorney for clients referred by the Mississippi Center for Justice and Southern Poverty Law Center. Mr. Bentley also currently serves as Chair of the Mississippi Bar Association’s Appellate Practice Section.

Mr. Bentley holds a J.D. (summa cum laude) from the Mississippi College School of Law where he was named the 2011 “Young Lawyer of the Year” by the Mississippi College School of Law Alumni Association. He earned a B.A. (magna cum laude) from Millsaps College.
