Patrick Darby Quoted in Law360 Article Regarding Detroit’s Most Recent Chapter 9 Settlement

Bankruptcy attorney Patrick Darby was recently quoted in the Law360 article “Detroit-Syncora Deal Restores Faith In Chapter 9,”evaluating the effectiveness of Chapter 9 in the wake of Detroit’s settlement with Syncora Holdings, Ltd., “the foremost opponent of [the distressed city’s] debt-cutting plan.”

“Chapter 9 has value even if you don’t get definitive rulings out of the court,” said Darby, who represented Jefferson County, Alabama, in its Chapter 9 bankruptcy case. “Even if the legal questions are not answered in a particular case, it provides a framework for settlement, and that’s as Congress intended. That means the law is doing its job.”
