Bradley Arant Boult Cummings Partner Bruce P. Ely Appointed Adjunct Professor at The University of Alabama’s Culverhouse School of Accountancy

Bradley Arant Boult Cummings LLP is pleased to announce that partner Bruce P. Ely has been appointed an adjunct professor of The University of Alabama’s Culverhouse School of Accountancy. Mr. Ely, a nationally known thought leader on state and local taxation, will be teaching a course this spring on “State and Local Taxes (SALT)” to the university’s Masters of Tax Accounting and Masters of Accountancy candidates.

“We congratulate Bruce on his appointment to teach at The University of Alabama’s Culverhouse School of Accountancy,” said Firm Chairman Beau Grenier. “His in-depth experience and acumen within the field of tax law will serve the university well.”

Mr. Ely co-chairs Bradley Arant Boult Cummings’s State and Local Tax Practice Group, has co-authored several books and numerous articles on the subject, and has been heavily involved with numerous legislative efforts over the past 31 years, including revising Alabama’s tax laws and its 1901 Constitution and implementing the landmark Alabama Taxpayers’ Bill of Rights. He is a member of the Advisory Board of New York University’s Institute on State and Local Taxation and of Bloomberg BNA’s Multistate Tax Advisory Board.

He graduated with honors from The University of Alabama School of Accountancy in 1977, is a 1980 graduate of The University of Alabama School of Law, and received his LL.M. in Taxation from the NYU School of Law in 1981. In December 2013, Mr. Ely was awarded the inaugural NYU/Paul H. Frankel Award for Outstanding Achievement in State and Local Taxation and speaks frequently at the NYU Tax Institutes and several other SALT institutes and conferences around the country.
