Bradley Arant Boult Cummings Attorney Robert M. Couch Elected President of Rotary Club of Birmingham
Bradley Arant Boult Cummings LLP is pleased to announce that attorney Robert M. Couch has been elected President of the Rotary Club of Birmingham, effective July 1, 2015, through June 30, 2016.
Founded in 1913, the Rotary Club of Birmingham has 640 members and is the largest Rotary International Club in the world. Rotary is a worldwide organization of business and professional leaders who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world. Rotary International includes about 1.2 million members of more than 30,000 Rotary Clubs in over 160 countries.

In addition to previously serving as the Rotary Club of Birmingham’s Vice President of Programs and President-Elect, Mr. Couch has served on several committees and worked on numerous projects for the local club.
As President, Mr. Couch will preside over the club’s activities, including its weekly meetings and local and international humanitarian projects and efforts. These include the club’s Centennial Legacy to the City of Birmingham—The Rotary Trail—a transformational project that is scheduled for construction between March and December 2015, as well as the Cancer Prevention & Early Detection Center in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Mr. Couch also will oversee the Birmingham club’s involvement in Rotary’s upcoming North American Large Clubs event to be held in Seoul, South Korea.
Mr. Couch is a member of the firm’s Banking and Financial Services, Real Estate, and Governmental Affairs practice groups, as well as the Financial Services Litigation and Compliance Team. He focuses his practice on mortgage lenders and investors; affordable housing; regulatory matters involving the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), the Government National Mortgage Association (GNMA), the Federal Housing Administration, and other government-sponsored enterprise matters; and governmental affairs.
Mr. Couch serves as a Commissioner of the Bipartisan Policy Center's Housing Commission. From June 2007 to November 2008 he was General Counsel of HUD, acting as the chief legal advisor to the secretary, deputy secretary, and other principal staff—providing advice on federal laws, regulations, and policies affecting HUD programs. Prior to his position with HUD, Mr. Couch served as President of Ginnie Mae. He was a member of President George W. Bush's Task Force on the Status of Puerto Rico in 2008.
Mr. Couch holds a J.D. (summa cum laude) from Washington & Lee University School of Law and a B.S. (cum laude) from Washington & Lee University.
