Bruce Ely Quoted in State Tax Today On Supreme Court’s Decision Invalidating Maryland Income Tax Regime

Bruce Ely was recently quoted in State Tax Today in regards to the U.S. Supreme Court’s 5-4 decision on May 18, 2015, holding that the Maryland personal income tax scheme violated the U.S. Constitution’s dormant Commerce Clause and was therefore unconstitutional.
“The majority opinion does a good job of basically emasculating the dissent,” Ely added that, “it gives you a birds-eye view into the Court’s thinking, and of course helps us understand why it took so long for the Court to issue this ruling.”
