Bradley Arant Boult Cummings Partner Sky Woodward Appointed to Maryland Appellate Courts Judicial Nominating Commission
T. Sky Woodward, a partner in the Washington, D.C., office of Bradley Arant Boult Cummings LLP, has been appointed to serve on the Maryland Appellate Courts Judicial Nominating Commission (ACJNC) by Maryland Gov. Larry J. Hogan, Jr. She will serve a four-year term that began on June 23, 2015.
“We are thrilled that Sky has been appointed to the Maryland Appellate Courts Judicial Nominating Commission,” said firm Chairman Beau Grenier. “Her experience in the courtroom will prove invaluable when recommending qualified candidates for the Maryland appellate courts.”
Pursuant to an Executive Order, the ACJNC, which is composed of 17 members, makes recommendations to the governor of qualified candidates for vacant seats on the Court of Appeals and the Court of Special Appeals. Woodward is one of 12 members appointed by the governor; the Maryland State Bar Association elects the remaining five members.
Woodward is experienced in complex litigation matters, including mass torts and class actions, product liability, toxic tort, environmental, and commercial litigation, as well as civil rights cases. Relying on two decades of litigation experience, she advises clients on how to avoid or mitigate the risks of product liability, consumer and environmental claims. She has served for 10 years as National Environmental Counsel for a leading national owner/manager of multifamily real estate properties.
Woodward also has served as president of Maryland Defense Counsel, Inc. (MDC), the statewide organization of trial lawyers who devote their practices to defending business in civil litigation, and now serves as chair of the DRI Center for Law and Public Policy, the policy development and advocacy arm of the 23,000-member MDC.
Woodward is a graduate of the George Washington University School of Law and the University of Oklahoma. She served as a judicial law clerk to the Hon. John F. McAuliffe (ret.), Maryland Court of Appeals, from 1992 through 1993.
