State and Local Tax (SALT) partner Bruce Ely was quoted in State Tax Notes regarding several special session bills to fix the budget deficit by Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley (R) that called for tax increases and a move to combined reporting to address the state's $700 million budget shortfall, but lawmakers rejected those ideas and failed to agree on revenue-raising measures before the session ended June 4.

“We finally received a summary yesterday afternoon of the Governor’s [new] revenue bills and the bills themselves. Although we’re still studying them, there were no surprises, but the legislators and lobbyists with whom we spoke don’t see any real possibility of the FICA disallowance bill passing,” said Ely.
