Bradley Arant Boult Cummings Partner Rod Kanter Elected Fellow of the American College of Bond Counsel
Bradley Arant Boult Cummings LLP is pleased to announce that Birmingham partner Rod Kanter has been elected as a Regular Fellow to the highly selective American College of Bond Counsel, which recognizes lawyers based on their skills, accomplishments, and high standards of professional and ethical conduct in the practice of bond law.
“We are thrilled to see Rod earn this distinction from the American College of Bond Counsel,” said firm Chairman Beau Grenier. “Rod has established himself as a respected and effective voice within the highly particular realm of bond law, serving on behalf of a multitude of our municipal and institutional clients. I cannot think of another individual more deserving.”
The college, formed in 1995, deems a bond lawyer’s skill as best judged by his or her peers and thus limits membership to lawyers who have at least 10 years of “substantial” experience and outstanding reputations in the field of bond law. The college was created largely to promote high standards of professional and ethical responsibility in the practice of bond law; improve bond law and practice; make educational materials and continuing education opportunities readily available; provide forums for attorneys practicing bond law; and offer members of this niche in the legal profession a voice before legislative, administrative and regulatory bodies.
Mr. Kanter’s primary practice includes serving as bond counsel and underwriter’s counsel in all types of tax-exempt and taxable debt financings. His representation of clients includes the State of Alabama, various healthcare authorities and systems, cities and counties, colleges and universities, industrial development boards, commercial development authorities, airport authorities, water and sewer systems, and many other types of public entities. He also actively represents cities, counties and related entities on economic development projects. Mr. Kanter negotiates on behalf of clients in structuring incentive arrangements, such as tax-sharing agreements, real estate participation ventures and complex public-private partnerships.
Mr. Kanter earned his J.D. from Vanderbilt University Law School and his B.S. from Birmingham-Southern College. He has been an active participant and lecturer in various seminars and programs in the public finance area, including those of the National Association of Bond Lawyers (NABL), for which he serves as Chairman of the General Law and Practice Committee.
