Bradley attorney Paul Bolus was quoted in Law360 on evaluating prospective clients and spotting potential “red flags.” During the screening process, lawyers should be wary of a client who is on his third or fourth attorney, as it could indicate an unwillingness to pay or possible ethical issues.

"It's certainly a red flag," explained Bolus. "The best thing to do is call the previous counsel — don't just take the client's word for it because there could be an issue with bills or something that they aren't telling you, [such as] asking you to take a position on a case that you're not sure is ethical."
