Bradley Partner Appointed ABA Intellectual Property Committee Chair
Bradley Arant Boult Cummings LLP is pleased to announce that Huntsville partner Jeremy A. Smith has been appointed to a three-year term as chair of the American Bar Association (ABA) Business Law Section’s Intellectual Property Committee.
“Jeremy’s long-standing participation in various ABA committees and sections establishes his commitment to serving the legal industry,” said Bradley partner Frank M. Caprio, who leads the firm’s Intellectual Property team. “I am happy to see him assume this new role and look forward to seeing the ways in which he furthers the committee’s goals.”
The Intellectual Property Committee was established to serve as a resource to business lawyers who, as members of corporate law departments and private law firms, encounter intellectual property issues in the course of representing their clients. The group works to identify specific areas of interest concerning intellectual property, developing educational programs and materials aimed at the understanding and resolution of legal and business issues relating to intellectual property.
Mr. Smith is a registered patent attorney who focuses his practice on protecting and managing patent, trademark, copyright and trade secret rights. His work encompasses all fields of biotechnology, including the pharmaceutical, life sciences and diagnostic industries. Mr. Smith has experience in conducting novelty/patentability searches for new pharmaceutical compounds, diagnostic assays, biomarkers, cell lines and various other biotechnology related inventions, as well as preparing infringement/freedom to operate opinions. He has prepared, filed and prosecuted patent applications worldwide for inventions in a wide range of technical disciplines. He also plays an active role in the management of patent portfolios for several clients, including pharmaceutical companies, non-biotechnology companies, and for companies in the underground piping industry. Additionally, Mr. Smith prosecutes trademark applications and has been actively involved in intellectual property litigation.
