State and Local Tax (SALT) attorney Bruce Ely was quoted in Bloomberg BNA on proposed new partnership tax return rules that could expand who is subject to Alabama tax requirements. Out-of-state partners of entities deemed to have a taxable connection or nexus with Alabama might be deemed taxable for income taxes under the proposed revisions, Ely explained.

“The regulation doesn't explicitly state that nonresident partners will automatically have nexus if the partnership or LLC has nexus, but I think it's implied,” Ely said.
