Scott Smith Presented With Distinguished DRI Award
Bradley Arant Boult Cummings LLP is pleased to announce that Huntsville partner Scott Burnett Smith has been recognized with the DRI Tom Segalla Excellence in Education Award, which is the organization’s most prestigious honor for excellence in continuing legal education. The award pays tribute to a DRI member whose contributions through legal scholarship exemplify DRI’s highest educational standards and further its mission to improve the skills of the defense practitioner. The awards presentation was held on October 20 during DRI’s 2016 Annual Meeting in Boston.
“Congratulations to Scott on this outstanding and deserved distinction,” said Bradley Chairman of the Board and Managing Partner Beau Grenier. “Scott demonstrates the utmost commitment to his service with DRI,
leading by both word and action, and challenging his colleagues to follow suit. We are pleased to see him recognized for his dedication and good work.”
Mr. Smith was selected for the award based on his years of leadership and service with DRI. He currently serves as chair of the Publications Board and is a
former national director on DRI’s Board of Directors. He is also the former chair of DRI’s Amicus Committee and former chair of DRI’s Appellate Advocacy
Committee. In addition, he has served as chair of the DRI’s national Class Action seminar and writes and speaks regularly on class actions and appellate
practice.
Mr. Smith’s practice covers class actions, complex litigation, government investigations, and appeals. He has been involved in dozens of nationwide class
actions in state and federal courts and has handled over 30 class action appeals. He is also regularly involved as the appellate lawyer embedded with a
trial team in complex civil litigation. In that role, Mr. Smith has succeeded in having several multimillion-dollar injury verdicts, including punitive
damages, remitted by the trial court or reversed and rendered by the appellate court.
