Tripp Haston Selected For Appointment as Foreign Legal Expert

Firm News

Bradley Arant Boult Cummings LLP is pleased to announce that partner Tripp Haston has been selected to receive Benchmark Chambers International’s (BCI) prestigious Letter of Appointment as a U.S. foreign legal specialist. Mr. Haston will be formally recognized on October 22, following his presentation at the International Association of Defense Counsel’s (IADC) inaugural Chinese Corporate Counsel Symposium (CCCS) in Shenzhen, China.

“It is truly an honor to be selected to receive BCI’s Letter of Appointment, as it creates an ability to serve clients in one of the most dynamic and burgeoning regions in the world. I am looking forward to the inaugural CCCS and am pleased to be a part of the event,” said Mr. Haston, who is past president of the IADC and currently serves as its Asian Membership Envoy.

BCI, a Shenzhen-based organization governed by the Justice Bureau of Shenzhen, provides law ascertainment services for local business and the judicial system. After receiving a Letter of Appointment, foreign lawyers are officially included in the pool of foreign legal experts from which BCI draws when seeking to retain foreign lawyers to provide services to the Shenzhen court system or Shenzhen enterprises. Only five other U.S. firms are currently represented in their pool of appointed attorneys.

“Shenzhen, a booming metropolis of 11 million, is home to many Chinese multi-national businesses, making it an ideal location for the event,” said Mr. Haston. “During my three-year term as Asian Membership Envoy, my charge is to expand our existing membership substantially, increase value for our members in the region and coordinate events in the region, all with the goal of having independent organizational leadership in the region that is self-sufficient and sustained.”

The inaugural CCCS is being sponsored by the IADC, the Shenzhen Bar Association and BCI. In his presentation, Mr. Haston will speak on the topic of Protecting Chinese Companies’ Interests in U.S. Courts.

Mr. Haston co-chairs Bradley's Life Sciences Industry Team and represents a broad spectrum of clients on regional, national and international engagements. He regularly represents medical device and pharmaceutical clients in products liability litigation and these have included Bayer, Pfizer, Merck, Sofamor Danek/Medtronic, Guidant/Boston Scientific, Fresenius and Novo Nordisk.
