Bradley attorney Sid Trant was quoted in the Birmingham Business Journal about the lengthy regulatory process that lies ahead for the new owner of the unfinished Bellefonte Nuclear Plant. While the new owner, Nuclear Developments LLC’s Franklin Haney, believes that the project could be transformative for the north Alabama region, it must secure the proper permits and certifications – a process that can take years.
The partially constructed portions of the facility must be re-certified prior to any construction taking place, Trant explained.
“You have to make sure that what’s there is capable of functioning and continuing the construction, in essence,” Trant said. “If you buy any site, you have to make sure what’s there is up to current standards and workable. There’s a baseline that has to be established before they move forward.”
