Bradley Arant Boult Cummings LLP is pleased to announce that Birmingham partner J. David Pugh has been elected to serve as 2017 Chair of the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) Alabama Chapter Executive Committee. Mr. Pugh was formally introduced at the ABC Alabama Chapter’s Excellence in Construction Banquet held on November 3. His term will commence in January 2017.

“It is certainly unique to elect an attorney as chair of the Associated Builders and Contractors, but with David’s background and history with the Association, and his desire to better the construction industry, he was the clear choice this year,” said ABC President Jay Reed.

Mr. Pugh was announced at the banquet by ABC’s current chair, Randall Curtis of Hoar Construction. During his acceptance, Mr. Pugh addressed his goals for 2017, his passion for the craft training needed for future industry professionals, and his desire to see the ABC Alabama Chapter serve as the voice of contractors and builders throughout the state.

ABC’s Nominating Committee and the ABC Alabama Chapter’s general membership elected Mr. Pugh to the position. He was appointed based on his commitment to ABC’s mission, his background in construction and engineering, and because as a construction attorney, he represents a multitude of the ABC’s members and their interests.

As a member of Bradley’s Construction team, Mr. Pugh has represented owners, general contractors, subcontractors, engineers, architects, insurance companies and sureties throughout the United States at every stage of a construction project, from conception and planning to performance and closeout. He has drafted and negotiated contracts for numerous projects, large and small, and he has participated in trials, hearings, appellate arguments, mediations and arbitrations across the country and internationally. Mr. Pugh has also argued before the United States Supreme Court, representing a pipe subcontractor involved in the construction of a natural gas pipeline.

Mr. Pugh has been an involved member of the ABC for many years, and has held numerous positions of leadership within the organization, including service on the National Board as well as the Alabama Chapter Board.
