Bradley Arant Boult Cummings LLP is pleased to announce that it has been selected as one of LMG Life Sciences’ “Recommended” firms for product liability work. Additionally, Birmingham partners Tripp Haston and Kevin C. Newsom have been named “Life Sciences Stars” for earning consistent peer recognition as being reputable and effective practitioners within the industry. The results are published in LMG Life Sciences 2017 and can also be seen here.

“Congratulations to Tripp and Kevin, and to each of Bradley’s talented life sciences attorneys,” said Bradley Chairman of the Board and Managing Partner Beau Grenier. “We are proud of our capabilities and rank within this realm, and grateful to LMG for this recognition.”

An LMG Life Sciences source described Bradley as “the big player” in the product liability realm, noting “any major case will most likely find its way to them first.” The firm’s Product Liability group represents clients in a variety of industries and jurisdictions throughout the state and federal court systems in litigation over a diverse range of consumer products, including pharmaceuticals and medical devices, automobiles, tires, and construction equipment. The team’s attorneys have also been appointed to leadership positions in various multidistrict litigation and mass claim matters where such claims have been litigated. They serve as national counsel for many clients in aspects of litigation such as expert development, company witness preparation, factual and medical discovery, trial and appellate strategy, and as regional counsel handling all litigation arising in a particular territory.

Mr. Haston co-chairs Bradley’s Life Sciences team and represents a broad spectrum of clients on regional, national and international engagements. He regularly represents medical device and pharmaceutical clients in products liability litigation and these have included Bayer, Pfizer, Merck, Sofamor Danek/Medtronic, Guidant/Boston Scientific, Fresenius and Novo Nordisk. Mr. Haston has served numerous clients as national trial and coordinating counsel and as a national team member in individual actions as well as mass tort and multi-district litigation. His experience has involved matters throughout the United States, Europe, Asia and South America. He has been recognized in numerous leading attorney directories, including The Best Lawyers in America, Chambers USA, Benchmark Litigation, and The International Who’s Who of Product Liability Defence Lawyers.

Mr. Newsom chairs Bradley’s Appellate team. He is one of five firm lawyers to have clerked at the U.S. Supreme Court. Before joining Bradley, he served as Alabama's Solicitor General, in which capacity he directed the State's litigation in the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. Courts of Appeals and the Alabama Supreme Court. Mr. Newsom has argued four cases in the U.S. Supreme Court, filed amicus curiae briefs in many others, and has authored numerous certiorari-stage briefs. He has also argued more than 35 cases in the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Second, Third, Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, Seventh, Tenth, Eleventh and D.C. Circuits, as well as in state supreme and appellate courts and a Native American tribal appellate court. He also regularly briefs and argues critical motions in trial courts, as well as proceedings before the Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation.

LMG Life Sciences 2017 results are based on responses from nearly 1,000 interviews and surveys completed by partners who are active in the market. Researchers spoke with clients and leading lawyers in addition to reviewing public information. They also rely on individual firm and attorney surveys.
