Former federal prosecutors and new Bradley attorneys Lee Bentley and Jason Mehta were featured in Law360. Bentley, who served as U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Florida from 2014 until 2017, and Mehta, a former Assistant U.S. Attorney in Jacksonville, will help build out a white collar and qui tam defense practice in Florida.
The two former prosecutors worked together to help increase the number of collections in qui tam matters in the district exponentially. Bentley said when he started at the U.S. Attorney's Office, it was collecting about $10 million per year in False Claims Act cases. This past year, the office brought in $800 million, according to Mehta.
“It was due primarily to the fact that our office began devoting more resources to those cases,” Bentley said. “We began putting more AUSAs and more talented AUSAs on those cases. Nothing breeds success like success, and when qui tam relators around the country saw what we were doing, they became more interested in filing those cases in the Middle District of Florida.”
