Bradley is pleased to announce that Matthew A. Hinshaw, an attorney in the firm’s Birmingham office, is the recipient of the firm’s 2018 Cameron J. Miller Award for Excellence and Community Service.

The award honors an associate who exemplifies the excellence, both in and out of the law firm, of Cam Miller, who died in June 2012 battling cancer while in his first year of practice as an attorney with Bradley. The firm established the award in conjunction with Mr. Miller’s parents, Frank and Alice Miller; his fiancée at the time of his passing, Katherine Perry; and Ms. Perry’s parents, Charlie and Sheri Perry. The award includes an annual donation to a charity in Mr. Miller’s memory. The firm, along with the Miller and Perry families, will make a collective cash donation of $10,000 to Magic City Woodworks (MCW) in Birmingham, which Mr. Hinshaw selected as the award beneficiary.

“We congratulate Matt for carrying on the community service and legal excellence for which we remember Cam,” said Bradley Chairman of the Board and Managing Partner Beau Grenier. “Matt has made significant contributions to the Birmingham area, and we are fortunate to have him represent the firm so well.”

Mr. Hinshaw was presented the award on Tuesday at an event in the firm’s Birmingham office that also was attended by Lawrence Sheffield, the founder and CEO of MCW. The non-profit organization provides paid apprenticeships to at-risk, underprivileged young men in the Birmingham area. MCW seeks to change the lives of these men by using the art of work as a platform to facilitate change and devotes as much time to training character as it does to teaching work skills.

When Mr. Hinshaw helped found MCW in 2013, he was responsible for business operations for the organization. He now serves as Chairman of the Board of MCW and focuses his time on governance and development. Mr. Hinshaw also is on the board of directors of Christian Medical Ministry of Alabama and on the advisory board for Build Urban Prosperity. In addition, he co-founded Made In Birmingham, a group of economic development young professionals, to foster interaction among the younger generation of economic developers in the metro area.

At Bradley, Mr. Hinshaw focuses his practice on economic development incentive package structuring and negotiation, general corporate and tax matters, and tax and governance issues. He helps clients form new companies, negotiate tax incentive packages, close deals, draft legislation, manage and grow operations, and manage their relationships with local and state government officials. He earned his J.D. from the University of Alabama School of Law (cum laude) and his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (magna cum laude) from Auburn University.
