Particularly for retail mortgage loan originators, social media is providing to be a challenging and difficult area to navigate. The “upside” of social media is clear, in that applications such as Facebook and Twitter instance access to a significant number of potential customers in a manner of advertisement that is minimally invasive. On the other hand, financial institutions such as banks and non-depository mortgage companies must be mindful that electronic advertising does not alleviate any of the compliance obligations that must be met with any advertising program.
