Beginning calendar year 2020, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) will change the minimum required level of supervision from direct supervision to general supervision for all outpatient therapeutic services in all hospitals and Critical Access Hospitals (CAHs). This change ensures a standard minimum level of supervision for each outpatient therapeutic service furnished incident to a physician’s service.
