      Represent the daughter of the late Roger Miller, a legendary singer, songwriter, musician, and actor, in advising on, managing and protecting her and her late mother’s royalty interests in Mr. Miller’s acclaimed song catalog.

      Represent Blessing Offor
      Represent a talented singer/songwriter who appeared as a semi-finalist on NBC’s The Voice in all legal facets of his entertainment career.

      Represented major copyright and royalty portfolio company
      Represented an entertainment company that specializes in purchasing historic portfolios of copyrights and royalty interests of prominent American music. Provided analysis of its complex royalty acquisition contracts to determine whether they were insulated against future claims that copyright termination principles are applicable to royalty stream purchases; conducted extensive and complex research involving the intersection of state contract law and copyright termination; and provided recommendations on better contract language that the client can use in future royalty acquisition purchases.

      Represented large restaurant chain
      Represented a national restaurant chain in drafting and negotiating artist participation agreements and synchronization licenses for its exclusive partnerships with major recording artists.

      Represented independent film production company
      Retained by Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch, one of America’s largest privately funded child and family service providers specializing in both residential and community-based services, as entertainment counsel for Tascosa Films, LLC. Representative tasks included script analysis and copyright registration, copyright recordation of script assignment documents, insurance coverage (including Errors & Omissions coverage), film title clearance, assistance with completion of SAG-AFTRA pre-production paperwork, drafting and negotiating all talent contracts, drafting name, image and likeness releases and location agreements, and providing general legal counsel during all stages of the pre-production, production and post-production process.

      Represented NHL for 2016 All-Star Game
      Retained by the NHL to be Tennessee counsel in conjunction with the 2016 NHL All-Star Game. Provided general legal advice on ticketing statutes and policies and reviewed venue contracts and building agreements, insurance and liability coverage, as well as advised on specific state law issues to help the client navigate working with local third-party contractors and vendors.

      Represented Italian record label
      Represented an Italian record label in a complex copyright infringement suit brought against it in federal district court. The case involved other parties from the U.K. and France. Client entered into a license with one of the co-defendants to exploit a catalog of classical music sound recordings owned by the plaintiff, but unbeknownst to the client, the applicable license between them had terminated, so the co-defendant no longer had the rights to sublicense or exploit the sound recordings. Filed motions to dismiss for lack of personal jurisdiction and obtained a favorable ruling dismissing the client from the case with prejudice.

      Represented legendary country music artist
      Represented a legendary country music artist in federal litigation with his ex-wife, who also served as his longtime personal manager. The litigation was successfully resolved through mediation on favorable terms to client.

      Represented large independent record label on Music Row 
      Represented one of Nashville’s most successful independent record labels in both entertainment litigation and transactional matters, including a minority shareholder dispute, the formation of a complex joint venture record label, the formation of a joint venture music publishing company, the negotiation and drafting of music distribution agreements, and the negotiation and drafting of foreign exclusive licensing agreements.

      Represented rock band managerRepresented ex-manager of famous rock band in a personal management contract dispute that involved parallel federal litigation in Tennessee, California and Nevada. All cases were settled globally, with client receiving a very favorable six-figure settlement.

      Represented Songwriters Guild of America
      Served as special litigation counsel and represented non-profit association of songwriters in various disputes concerning the collection and payment of royalties from third-party publishing companies and other licenses of copyrighted works, including issues associated with the termination, protection and reversion of copyrights, as well as litigation involving interpleaders and adjustments of royalties payable through third-party publishers.

      Represented Texas songwriter
      Represented a Texas-based singer-songwriter in a dispute with a Nashville-based music publishing company over the terms of an exclusive songwriting agreement entered into between the parties. The federal lawsuit, which involved such claims and counterclaims as breach of contract and fraudulent misrepresentation, was settled through private mediation on favorable terms.
