Jude Halawi concentrates his practice on appellate and complex commercial litigation throughout the federal and state court systems, with a focus on legal strategy, appeals and petitions, and motion practice. Jude also has significant experience in environmental law, both in litigation and compliance matters.
Jude has handled appeals from their inception to oral argument, including successfully leading clients through appellate mediation. Although his practice focuses on appellate litigation and legal strategy, he regularly litigates at the trial court level, primarily in environmental matters, policyholder insurance recovery disputes, class action defense, and securities or financial services litigation. Jude also has developed significant experience under the Federal Arbitration Act, regularly enforcing or challenging arbitration agreements in state and federal courts.
His environmental practice includes enforcement defense, litigation and appeals, crisis response and management, and permitting and compliance counseling. Jude has represented clients in environmental matters before federal and state trial and appellate courts, as well as federal, state, and local agencies. He is particularly experienced in defending citizen suits and U.S. Department of Justice/EPA and state enforcement actions under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act.
Jude also maintains an active appellate pro bono practice, through which he has handled appeals before various appeals courts and received recognition from the Legal Aid Society for his appellate work in New York state court.
Before joining Bradley, Jude was an associate at Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe in New York and clerked for the Hon. Madeline Haikala of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Alabama. While at the University of Virginia School of Law, Jude served as the Senior Writing Fellow for the Legal Research and Writing Program and was a member of the Appellate Litigation Clinic. He received a B.A. in Sociology (summa cum laude) from UCLA.
