Steve Monk represents a diverse group of real estate-related companies, which include publicly traded Fortune 500 companies, privately owned multi-disciplined operating companies, and both residential and commercial developers throughout the state of Alabama, as well as various municipalities. Steve’s experience lies in complex real estate development matters and includes representation of clients in the acquisition, financing, sale and development of real estate, with a particular emphasis in planned unit development zoning, restrictive covenants, creation of homeowners’ and property owners’ associations from a developer’s perspective, condominium formation and development, and providing advice regarding federal and state regulatory compliance in connection with such development activities and sales. He has counseled clients from the northern reaches to the southern shores of Alabama on numerous diverse real estate matters ranging from the acquisition of properties to the creation of restrictive covenants to counseling clients on title and litigation matters. His work extends to the representation of municipalities and public/private partnerships that include the acquisition and sale of municipal properties, as well as the implementation and formation of master covenants, condominium regimes, and zoning for such municipal properties.
In addition to his work with clients, Steve served as an adjunct professor at the University of Alabama School of Law for 14 years (2009 – 2022) and continues to serve as an adjunct professor in Real Estate Development Law for the Auburn University Masters of Real Estate Development Program (beginning with the inception of the master’s program in 2010 and continuing through 2026). Steve also considers it a blessing to be able to mentor young attorneys at his firm, as well as serving the Catholic Diocese of Birmingham as a member of its Property Committee for over 30 years.
