    • Won an injunction against the world's largest athletic retailer to halt an ad campaign that infringed the trademarks of a franchisor of athletic goods and services; defeated motions to stay the injunction in North Carolina federal court and the Fourth Circuit; and won dismissal of the retailer's appeal in the Fourth Circuit.

      Represented the International Franchise Association as amicus curiae in a franchise case before the North Carolina Supreme Court challenging the North Carolina Business Court's interpretation of an exemption from disclosure under the Federal Trade Commission's Franchise Rule.

      Won an injunction for a North Carolina-based education consulting firm in trademark litigation in Massachusetts federal court against a multinational consulting firm.

      Defended a multinational automotive retail chain in a nationwide class action over the administration of franchise advertising funds through a seven-week trial in federal court and a successful appeal in the Fourth Circuit.

      Represented a fast-casual Mexican restaurant chain in disputes over infringement of trademarks and trade dress; advised them on advertising issues and on online privacy policies and terms of use.

      Defended a regional grocery chain in a federal lawsuit in Texas filed by a company providing “mystery shopper” services alleging copyright infringement and theft of trade secrets; advised them on comparative advertising and intellectual property issues.

      Represented an investment management company in trademark litigation against a hedge fund in Delaware federal court and in a successful appeal in the Third Circuit.

      Advised the U.S. subsidiary of a European-based toy manufacturer and retailer on issues related to product packaging, advertising, and social media marketing, U.S. trademarks and copyrights, and online privacy policies and terms of use.

      Defended a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver in opposition proceedings at the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board brought by a national manufacturer and retailer of snowboarding products.

      Advise an international supplier of bottled water and dispensers on intellectual property issues, advertising and product packaging, and online privacy policies and terms of use.

      Represented national and regional franchisors in federal courts in North Carolina seeking injunctive relief against franchisees for trademark infringement and related claims.

      Represented a quick service chicken-and-biscuits restaurant chain in disputes over advertising and infringement of trademarks, trade dress, and copyrights.

      Advised a national chain of extended stay hotels on franchise issues and contract negotiations.

      Represented a niche-market manufacturer and retailer of canine treats in a federal lawsuit to enforce its trademark rights against a major manufacturer of pet products.

      Represented a Jordan-based manufacturer and distributor of Middle Eastern foods and its North Carolina affiliate in a trademark, trade dress, and false advertising lawsuit against an Illinois distributor.

      Represented a major financial institution seeking to halt a competitor’s trademark infringement in nationally televised bankcard commercials.

      Represented a Kansas-based cooling tower manufacturer in a federal lawsuit in Florida against a Calcutta-based former licensee involving trademark infringement and business defamation claims.

      Represented an international power plant manufacturer in a fraud and breach of contract dispute in federal court in Florida over the construction of a power plant in Pakistan.

      Defended a major motion picture distributor in a copyright infringement lawsuit filed by an author who claimed his manuscript was the basis for the movie He Got Game.

      Represented a national software company in litigation against a prospective business partner involving copyright and trade secret disputes related to performance measurement software in healthcare.

      Defended a national provider of waste management services in a class action in North Carolina Business Court involving contract claims.
