Bradley attorney Erin Illman was quoted in Power Technology about the supply chain for the electric-power sector, which is increasingly seen as the most vulnerable link when it comes to cyberattacks.

Illman said the supply chain “presents the biggest risk” to power-system cybersecurity. She describes the vulnerability not as a theoretical concern but as the primary threat, more significant than risks facing individual utility companies.

She also noted that the growing use of AI-driven attacks adds a new and troubling dimension. It’s no longer just older threats such as hacking or malware; attackers may now use AI to exploit the supply chain in ways the industry has not fully prepared for.

Illman added that many power-sector players are rethinking their assumptions about resilience. Companies can no longer assume that “if we patch our own systems, we’re safe.” Instead, she said, they must reevaluate every vendor, supplier, and component along the chain.
