Derek Trotter is a senior advisor* in Bradley’s Governmental Affairs and Economic Development practice groups. His clients include small Alabama businesses, nonprofits, trade associations, and Fortune 500 companies looking to navigate and influence state and local government.

With nearly two decades of experience spanning campaigns, a senior role in the governor’s office, the Alabama Senate, and the private sector, Derek has developed a perspective on the Alabama political process that few can match.

Before joining Bradley, Derek served as chief of staff to two consecutive presidents pro tempore of the Alabama Senate. In these roles, he coordinated the movement of complex legislative priorities and worked closely with leadership to ensure the seamless execution of the legislative agenda. He was deeply involved in every aspect of the legislative process, earning recognition for his judgment, ability to build consensus, and drive results in a high-pressure environment.

Yellowhammer News has recognized him as one of Alabama’s top political influencers every year since 2019, calling him “one of state government’s most savvy operators.”

Derek represents clients on matters related to appropriations, banking, construction, economic development, healthcare, real estate, procurement, taxation, technology, and transportation, among others.

A graduate of Auburn University, Derek works with the Bradley team to provide a full range of governmental affairs services in Alabama.
