Bradley attorney Chris Puri was quoted in Skilled Nursing News discussing how artificial intelligence is not only changing litigation tactics but also reshaping regulatory priorities in the skilled nursing sector heading into 2026.

Puri emphasized that ownership and transparency of change-of-ownership oversight will remain a central focus for lawmakers and regulators in 2026. “We’ve got the impending deadline of the off-cycle revalidation rule that now has been indefinitely postponed, at least for a deadline,” he said.

Puri also highlighted resident monitoring and privacy as emerging legal pressure points. While video monitoring is gaining support as a way to improve resident safety and help facilities address survey backlogs, “the privacy and surveillance balance is definitely a component of at least the legislation I’ve seen in a number of states on that issue,” he said.

He suggested the industry is at a crossroads following COVID-era disruption, staffing shortages and regulatory backlogs. “It’s going to be interesting to see if we have the opportunity to develop a different paradigm, where, from a regulatory standpoint, oversight standpoint, both at the state and federal level, we’re working together to identify what the proper vetting is, what proper oversight is,” he said.
