Bradley attorney Chris Puri was quoted in Skilled Nursing News discussing a renewed legislative focus on allowing electronic monitoring devices in nursing homes to increase transparency, support family involvement, and address safety concerns amid workforce pressures.
Puri highlighted that Oklahoma’s monitoring laws are often viewed as “best in class.”
“Oklahoma’s provisions are frequently cited in multistate policy comparisons for their clarity and balance between dignity and privacy, and resident safety,” he said.
Puri also pointed to Illinois law as a comparative framework. “It offers explicit statutory authorization, standardized consent forms, roommate consent and accommodation rules, clear signage and notice requirements, anti‑retaliation provisions and procedures for disabling during personal care upon request,” he said.
Across his examples, Puri emphasized the importance of clarity, balance, and resident autonomy in electronic monitoring legislation. “Operational guidance for facilities is well developed and familiar to regulators and providers,” he added.
