Aron Beezley Quoted in Law360 on Anthropic's First Amendment Argument

Bradley partner Aron Beezley was quoted in Law360 on Anthropic’s First Amendment challenge, calling it the company’s strongest legal argument against the Trump administration’s decision to designate Anthropic as a national security supply chain risk.

Beezley said Anthropic’s First Amendment argument is likely the company’s "strongest card,” adding that it's "pretty clear that this matter is bigger than just Anthropic."

According to Beezley, the central concern is whether the Federal Acquisition Supply Chain Security Act could be used as a tool to pressure or punish AI vendors that refuse to give the government unrestricted authority to use their AI models.

"We've seen OpenAI, Google employees, ACLU and former national security officials all file amicus briefs, and the apparent concern is that the Federal Acquisition Supply Chain Security Act, that that's going to become a lever to punish any vendor that won't give the government essentially a blank check to use its AI, so definitely interesting cases and noteworthy ones to watch," Beezley said.

Beezley explained the Anthropic litigation has the potential to set an important precedent for government contractors and AI developers.

In his view, the outcome could determine whether the government can use federal procurement and supply chain authorities to influence or penalize companies based on their AI policies, making the dispute significant for the broader technology and government contracting industries.
