Aron Beezley Quoted in Law360 on Central Issue in SBA's Proposed Rule

Bradley attorney Aron Beezley was quoted in Law360 about the central issue surrounding the U.S. Small Business Administration’s proposed rule: balancing increased competition with the SBA’s mission to protect and develop small businesses.

Beezley characterized the proposal as a "double-edged sword." On the positive side, allowing more companies to qualify as small businesses could increase competition for set-aside contracts and potentially result in lower prices and greater value for taxpayers.

"The government has dual concerns. On the one hand, it's looking out for the taxpayer and trying to get the best bang for its buck. But on the other hand, the Small Business Administration is trying to promote the advancement of small businesses, and so those dual goals sometimes can be in tension, and I think we're going to see that play out if this rule becomes finalized and is effectuated," Beezley said.

The proposal could make federal procurement more competitive and potentially save taxpayers money, but it also risks diluting the competitive advantages that the small-business contracting program was designed to provide.
