Alex Lunka is an associate in the firm’s Construction Practice Group. He draws on his background as a licensed mechanical engineer and expert witness to assist contractors, subcontractors, and owners in navigating disputes, claims, and complex project issues.
Before practicing law, Alex served as president of his own engineering firm, where he regularly consulted on construction disputes by developing and analyzing claims in litigation, mediation, and arbitration. His consulting practice focused on schedule delay analysis, loss of productivity, and damages quantification for contractors and subcontractors. He also worked as a mechanical engineer designing HVAC, plumbing, medical gas, and fire protection systems and managing related projects, giving him firsthand insight into the technical and operational challenges that arise on large projects. Alex’s experience spans many sectors, including automotive, mission critical, military, residential, manufacturing, water treatment, and professional sports facilities. He also consulted on a major civil infrastructure matter tied to a criminal investigation into alleged bid rigging.
Alex received his J.D. (summa cum laude) from Georgia State University College of Law, where he served as student writing editor for the Georgia State University Law Review and competed as a member of the Moot Court. While in law school, he externed with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Georgia and mediated more than 100 landlord-tenant disputes through the Georgia State University Mediation Clinic. Alex also holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical & Systems Engineering, as well as a M.S. and B.S. (magna cum laude) in Mechanical Engineering from Ohio University.
