Corby Anderson regularly counseled retail clients on the challenges they face every day, from protecting and enforcing trademark, trade dress, copyright, trade secret, and other intellectual property rights to navigating traps for the unwary in using new media and dealing with data privacy and security issues. In addition to representing retailers in litigation, Corby advised them on marketing, advertising, and promotional campaigns, helping to ensure compliance with federal and state laws and regulations and industry self-regulatory guidelines. She drafted and reviewed online privacy policies and terms of use and helped clients deal with data breaches. She also drafted and reviewed rules for contests and sweepstakes. Her practice focused on commercial litigation, with an emphasis on retail, franchise, intellectual property, and new media law. Corby litigated cases in federal courts throughout the United States, as well as in North Carolina’s trial and appellate courts. She represented clients in trials and appeals involving trademark, copyright, trade secret, unfair competition, false advertising, defamation, and product disparagement claims, as well as other contract and business tort disputes.

Corby was a frequent speaker on issues of interest to the retail industry, including advertising, intellectual property, social media, and data privacy, among others. She made presentations on these topics to the Association of Corporate Counsel, the American Bar Association’s Forum on Franchising, the National Association of Licensing and Compliance Professionals, and the North Carolina Bar Association, as well as to corporations in the retail and franchise sectors.
